GOD IS MOVING

I have been serving with JJM for about a year, and it has been a great opportunity to meet young men who need encouragement, coaching, love, and Christ. In my first few months going into the correctional facility I felt discouraged because I didn’t feel like I was connecting with any of the guys.

As time went on, I realized I needed to simplify my approach. At first, I was looking for opportunities to share the gospel with as many guys as possible and felt defeated when my expectations weren’t being met. Instead of focusing on all the guys, I prayed the Lord would give me one young man I could love and point to Jesus.

This led me to meeting “Chris” and “Jordan,” foster brothers who got locked up together. They were only in the facility for 14 days, and I only met with them twice during this time. They taught me how to play a card game, and I would ask them about their hobbies and interests. They warmed up to me quickly as we played and laughed together. It was that initial connection that led me to have a relationship with them when they got out.

It was an exciting moment when I received a text from Jordan asking when we could get together. Since this time, I have met with Chris and Jordan several times to hang out and talk. I have learned so much about their lives and been able to have many spiritual conversations with them. God is moving in these young men’s lives!
